W1 vs Witney 1

W1 vs Witney 1

Scorers: Miriam Marti, Vicki Franks

The W1 travelled away to Witney, Oxford this week ready to take points. Momentum has been building over recent weeks and after a draw last week vs Wimbledon, the team were hungry to secure a win.

A very shakey start saw the team go 1-0 down in the first 5 minutes and the score remained 1-0 at quarter time. From here the team regrouped and went out into the second quarter with great energy, moving the ball and dominating possession.

Their pressure and possession was rewarded in quarter 3 as Miriam Martí converted a corner for city, with great composure to slot the ball in on the post, off a solid delivery from Kat Petch.

At 3/4 time the team knew 3 (or 2) points were there for the taking and upped the pressure on the hosts. Amie Hunt won a penalty stroke in open play, as she flicked the ball onto the oppositions foot on the goal line. There was no one better to step up and take the lead for City than Captain Stan, who calmly slammed the ball into the corner of the goal.

The team fought relentlessly for the final 10 minutes of the game to defend their lead and come away with a well deserved 3 points.

POM goes to goal scorer Miriam Martí for her defensive intensity in crucial moments and forward connective play between our defence and forwards to create opportunity.

The team will continue to build on this weeks result and look to secure another 3 points next week vs Barnes at home, to see them into the Christmas break!
