Another day, another drizzly saturday in Peterborough and Cambridge City Womens 3s arrived ready and raring for another magical game of hockey.
Another round of unagi hypnosis from Verity got the team focused and ready to work their socks off for their teammates. The game kicked off with good intensity, with City quickly showing themselves to be the dominant force. Possession was held well, with Verity, Becky and Laura demonstrating excellent composure in defence and transferring the ball with pace. Meanwhile Barks and Bebbs began their weekly marathon, leading in and out of the middle as speedily as a seeker scurrying after their golden snitch.
Peterborough did not stand off for too long though, making tackles and passes and playing hockey. But they were no match for the dark lord (baz) and his merry band of death eaters, led by Holly Crouch Jr. And Ciara making devastating leads down the line. Some onlookers even claimed to have heard them whispering "imperio hockey-o" to the hockey ball as it seemed stuck to their sticks as if obeying a command.
Meanwhile up front, Crabbe, Goyle and Malfoy were whipping up a frenzy in Peterborough's D. After a few chances went awry, somewhere around 25 minutes, Anita Malfoy pinged the perfect ball to Millicent Ely who zinged it into the goal with what can only be described as savage panache.
Half time soon came around and everyone listened attentively to the dark lord's inspiring speech on the endless pursuit of the elusive "clinical finish" and our need to protect the hocruxes...I mean the middle.
And so it continued, with Ellatrix Lestrange taking the lead in stepping in front and winning those 50/50 balls. Some more hockey was played and there were a few very tense moments where the ball dribbled past City's post. But with Naomi making some killer saves, we remained in the game.
With around 10 minutes to the end, Holly made yet another incredible lead, popped the ball to Emily who zig zagged around 500 defenders and tapped the ball to Hannah Crabbe who then decided this was the perfect opportunity to debut the new stroke she'd been working on for months..the Flairial. Drag flicks can move over, the Flairial has arrived. And there were roars from the crowd...GOAL!! 10 points to Slytherin!
Around 10 minutes later, the game ended with City now at the top of the league and the dark mark glowing in the sky. He's back!
POTM went to Holly for her blistering runs up the line
