Ladies 1s promoted to National League! PDF Print E-mail

A 3-1 win over Tunbridge Wells last weekend secures Cambridge City Ladies' 1s as winners of the East Premier League title and entry next season into the National League.

It was a close finish to the league with City needing to win the match with Tunbridge Wells in order to beat Dereham to the top spot.

Captain Vicki Franks said, "It wasn't a classic game. I think we were a bit nervous because our entire season and the hard work we'd done was resting on the game. Tunbridge Wells were a much better team than their league postion suggested and they needed to win as well to have a chance of staying up".

City played in the National League in 07/08 but were relegated after just one season, however the team are confident of a better campaign next season, "When we got promoted two years ago we won the league by about 17 points and I think it's great that the league's been much stronger this year. That will help us in terms of perparation for the National League because we've learned how to fight for games", said Vicki.

It has been a fantastic season for the Ladies 1s - they also won the Women's National Indoor Trophy in January.

Congratulations Ladies' 1s!
